“Very sunny, hot and dry, but no heat waves and the nights were cool, so 2005 is a very successful vintage in all the appellations. Pontet-Fumet 2005 was gifted with good acidity and is tipping from youthful fresh fruit aromas towards more animal hints of undergrowth, leather and spice. The tannins are still powerful, but don’t cause the dryness that many Bordeaux 2005’s suffer from because of the vintage’s lack of water. A truffle omelette or more reasonably a dish of meat in sauce or a small piece of game would be the right match.”
